FORMER ATLANTIC
CITY
DEPUTY POLICE
CHIEF
WIL GLASS
WINS
$ 796,000
COMPENSATORY
AWARD FROM
UNITED STATES JURY
TODAY,
(THURSDAY) JANUARY 31, 2007 THE JURY WILL RECONVENE
TO AWARD
PUNITIVE DAMAGES
Jury was out for less
than one hour, before deciding in Chief Glass' favor.
Former Chief Arthur
Snellbaker is at the center of all of this.
The jury believed Glass
and all of his witnesses, that he was substantially wronged by
Snellbaker.
Glass' witnesses were
highly credible.
What will be very
interesting to see, is the fact that a City employee, or, a former employee like
in Snellbaker's case, cannot be indemnified by the City.
This means that
Snellbaker could/should be personally responsible for any punitive damages
awarded to Glass that the jury assigns responsibility to
Snellbaker.
I will report on
today's punitive award for Glass as soon as it is decided.
But, make no mistake
about it, the jury has already decided that Glass will be receiving punitive
damages. The only thing that remains is exactly how much they will award
him.
Glass is so deserving
of yesterday's result. The City should have responsibly settled this matter with
Glass long ago. This was a big mistake.
Now, the taxpayers are
going to get rocked for a 7-figure award.
Developing.
