IN ATLANTIC CITY

Congratulations to the citizens of Atlantic City. Your turn-out was a bit anemic ... But, you appear to have gotten the job done ... You have summarily rejected the Craig Callaway candidates ...
In Ward 1 ... Bruce Ward defeated Juanita Price 91.65% to 8.35%
In Ward 2 ... Marty Small defeated Toni Callaway Dixon 86.14% to 12.98%
In Ward 3 ... Challenger Steve Moore defeated Callaway hand-appointed Joyce Molleneux 76.44% to 23.56%
In Ward 4 ... Council President William "Speedy" Marsh brushed asside Callaway pal Diana Burgess 86.5% to 13.29%
Dennis Mason & Tim Mancuso had walkovers in Wards 5 & 6.
In the at large race ... Councilman George Tibbitt defeated Barbara Hudgins 67.5% to 32.41%
Yes, the turnout was SCARY on the light side. Fortunately, all of the winners machine results should hold up ... I'm only a little bit concerned about Steve Moore in the 3rd Ward ... But, his victory should also hold-up.
This was one of the most crucial elections in the vast, rich history of Atlantic City. And, you came a little too close to letting this one get away.
What a bad signal that would have sent.
When the stakes are so high ... it amazes me how few really care.
Fortunately, it is becoming more and more obvious that the once motivated and powerful Craig Callaway political group is now running on fumes.
They had no energy ... nor, any presence at the Board of Elections last night. They appear resigned to the fact that they cannot win elections in Atlantic City or Atlantic County any longer.
However, this is because a handful of people worked extremely hard to stomp them out. Do not get complacent, as the political cancer, which is presently in remission ... could return at any time, if you let your guard down.
There are still a number of important political battles to fight. The disturbing and almost vacant Bob Levy administration must still be dealt with.
Also, there are several General Election challenges which should not be taken lightly ... Former City Council President Ernest Coursey is running for a Council seat in November. Also, Steve Layman, a former Mayor of his home town .. now resides in Atlantic City and he's taking on Councilman Tim Mancuso.
So, there are contested General Election battles which will be waged in Atlantic City ... including Michael Toland ... who is the only Republican on the ballot.
Let me conclude by once again congratulating the citizens of Atlantic City for turning away each and every Craig Callaway-backed candidate. History will show that this past year will be one of the most politically significant in Atlantic City and Atlantic County history.
Our work is not finished. The present trend is great, but, there is still much important work ahead. Don't lose the focus.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This vitally important election cycle also showed how effective it was to advertise on "Hurley in the Morning," The Truth in Broadcasting heard daily on 1020 WIBG Radio.
The Callaway candidates all paid for their message to be heard on the station that Craig Callaway can still depend on .. WOND Radio (Williams and Kravitz programs).
By contrast, Marsh, Tibbitt, Small and Moore all spent their money wisely on "Hurley in the Morning" ... They're all winners today, and, so (now) are the people of Atlantic City ... who have their best opportunity for honest and responsible government.
