Mr. Pierre Hollingsworth died Sunday June 3, 2007 at home.  Mr. Hollingsworth attended the Atlantic City public schools and graduated from Atlantic City High School.  After high school he proudly served his country in the Korean War. 
 
In 1956 Mr. Hollingsworth joined the Atlantic City Fire Department and became a Fire Captain in 1967.  He served as a Fire Code Inspector until 1976.  He became a City Commissioner in 1976.
 
After serving as Commissioner he returned to the Fire Department as Battalion Chief and rose to the rank of Deputy Chief in 1986.  He retired after 30 years of service to the Atlantic City Fire Department.
 
On August 23, 2005 the City of Atlantic City named and dedicated Firehouse Number 3 at Indiana Avenue & Grant Avenue in his honor.
 
Mr. Hollingsworth was very active in the community and was described as a champion of the people.  His service to the community included the following affiliations:  City Commissioner, Public Works Director, Planning Board member,
City Housing Coordinator, Commissioner of the Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority, an adjunct faculty member in the Fire Science at Atlantic Cape Community College. 
 
He was instrumental in forming the following organizations:  MEDCO, the Congressional Black Caucus Brain Trust Committee, the Atlantic Housing Development Corporation, and a host on the radio station WUSS.  He was most recently involved with forming the Citizens to Restore Fiscal Responsibility.  
 
Mr. Hollingsworth's greatest commitment were to the Atlantic City Branch of the NAACP, where he served as President for 24 years. 
 
He was the recipient of many awards to include the City's Historical Marker Program.  His marker is on the corner of
Pacific Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
 
The Atlantic City Police Department would like to advise the citizens of Atlantic City about temporary road closures and parking restrictions pertaining to Mr. Hollingsworth's funeral service.
 
Listed below are the funeral arrangements.    
   Friday June 8, 2007-  
         Viewing: 1600 to 1900 hours at Fire station 3 (Indiana & Grant Ave.)
     "No Parking" will be posted on Grant Avenue (Indiana to Ohio Ave.)  and will be closed to traffic during these hours. 
     "No Parking" will also be posted on the surrounding perimeter of the Firehouse which will include Indiana, Ohio, and Lincoln Avenue.
 
Saturday June 9, 2007-
        Viewing:   0900 to 1100 hours at St. James AME Church (New York Avenue & Arctic Avenue.)
        Services: 1100 hours
        Burial:     Following the services to Greenwood Cemetery in Pleasantville, New Jersey.
   "No Parking" will be posted on:
         New York Avenue (Atlantic to Baltic Ave.)  New York Avenue will be closed to traffic from Arctic to Baltic Ave.
         Arctic Avenue (Kentucky to Tennessee Ave.)
         Bay Street (Arctic to Baltic Ave.)
