Charge Hamilton Democrats with pushing “Jonestown Budget”
The team of SILVA, GATTO and NICKELS have charged Democrat incumbents with pushing a “Jonestown Budget” upon the residents of Hamilton Township. The proposed budget calls for an 8.5 cent tax increase and according to Citizens for Open & Honest Government, it is just the latest and boldest insult in a series of assaults on the local population.
“This Mayor should be ashamed of himself. He’s increased spending over 140% over the past 5 years and it’s deplorable. I don’t know anyone who has had a 140% increase in their salary in the last 5 years and yet, they just keep wasting and spending our money” remarks Joe Nickels, former Freeholder and Township Committeeman. “They’d like us all to remain quiet, subservient and simply drink in their poisoned tax and spend budget, but folks are now wise to their tactics. I’m disgusted with their lack of compassion for our residents and angry at the total absence of mind on display when it comes to running an efficient, effective government,” Nickels continues.
“It’s more than a shame,” remarks Amy Gatto. “I’ve grown up my whole life in Mays Landing and I’ve witnessed my own family’s struggle as the cost of living in Hamilton Township has steadily risen, while neighboring towns find a way to make due and take into account the concerns of their residents. Our citizens should have the opportunity to live affordably in their community. They shouldn’t be taxed out of town due to a government that has just become out-of-touch with regular, hardworking people,” she states.
Roger Silva, a former Democrat who turned Republican due to the antics of the current leadership, is equally dismayed. “This brings our increases to over 53 cents in less than a decade. When does it end?” he remarks. “In my opinion, they’ve lost sight of the very people they were elected to serve. It’s a disservice to introduce a budget that promotes an 8.5 cent tax increase to the residents of Hamilton Township, but it’s just more of the same. This is a closed minded trio currently leading our government, and people are fed up. They want Open and Honest Government and they’re going to get that in November with the election of Silva, Gatto and Nickels,” he states.
